Re: “Preparing to Fall Back, Huffman Touts Daylight Saving Bill

Exactly, Rod. I sense that this is yet another cynical attempt to convince us that the modern world has little to do with the earth and sun, but is simply a human-made invention that we can alter to our complete comfort-- never any inconvenience or allowance for reality! I agree that the time change is funky and unnecessary-- but it's fixed by returning to natural time, where midnight is middle of the night and noon is when the sun is highest in the sky. Not by mandating clocks set to an hour off reality. If people don't like having it dark so early in the afternoon, they should get up/start work earlier. 9-5 always seemed a little weird when 8-4 centers the work day on the light hours.

Re: “'Overlooked'

I like what you say here, Peter. I haven't been here for as long as the original back-to-the-landers, but generally had the same idea as they, and a good number of the people who for decades have been attracted to this area, had: to get away from the rat race, to not pay too much attention to the modern world... more to the birds and the weather and the sun and moon cycles. To learn and live here. To be here because we want to be here.
Now there are so many people who are here as a stepping stone to something else they want. Another place, another lifestyle, money, prestige. Worse, they won't even just do their thing and get out... they change this place while they're at it, as if we were looking for the world and all its plastic here.
Anyway, thank you for writing this. I am going to link it on my Facebook page.

Re: “Make America Safe Again

Rick Brennan, did you read somewhere that there was an estimate of .01 percent of 800,000 refugees in Germany having a chance of being terrorists? If so, that would be 1/100th of one percent, which would be 80. (Not 8,000 minimum suspected jihadists. That would be one full percent--one in a hundred.)
Not even 80 terrorists is good... but it's no small exaggeration to say 8000 when you mean 80. Nor is it comforting to know that so many people who can't even do basic math (and thus, can be assumed not to have much functioning upstairs) are actively promoting fear and hysteria.
Your propaganda is devalued by your ignorance.
