A vital story. The problem is with large systems, which favor national corporate centralized food suppliers and trucking companies (who squeeze out the smaller truckers with federal trucking laws). The solution is going to have to be local, which we're clearly not prepared for. Good news: lots of people learning to garden. Thanks, Linda.
Thanks Elaine Weinreb for getting this old news back in the public mind--Elk River is so easily forgotten. Good visuals and clear writing. I wish it had provided some reference for "one recent study indicates the river may have passed a tipping point." A lot of points seem to be tipping at the same time.
HRC talked a good game in Elk River, but its policies were driven by John Fisher's need for return on investment. That continues to be the case under the state's latest restrictions, which will allow water quality and the watershed to continue to deteriorate. We are supporting Fisher's profits same as Rainbow Ridge or the people who will pay for a new ball park for his Oakland A's. Socialize all of it--forests, energy, baseball.
THIS EVENT TOOK PLACE ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 25.
