Re: “Update: Oyster Fest Mess

I've been to strawberry fests, clam fests, cherry fests, etc...all over the country and have never seen anyone charge a fee at any of those.

This isn't a music fest, it's a oyster fest, and the people that will end up not going is the families. The people that won't care about the charge will be the young adults from the valley that are already spending a lot of money to drive here to get wasted in a cooler environment. I've said this in another thread, it will be turned into a Halloween in Chico nightmare by this, rather than a family event, and these people will most likely be spending their drinking money on bottles of liquer at the liquer store, which will be totally counter productive.

Most years my family comes early before it gets crazy to walk around, try some oysters, have a few beers, see friends we haven't seen since the year before, and then hit up the Farmers Market. This year that won't be happening, and I've heard the exact same thing from countless other families in my circle of friends. In fact, a couple hundred (so far) of us have already made plans to gather somewhere else as a group with music, BBQ's and oysters. We make up a lot of families that are not the drunks causing trouble.

Another major concern is the way I've seen a person named Terrance, who is obviously really involved in Main Street, talking down to many members of this community, ( https://www.facebook.com/northcoastjournal… ),who express concern and pay for the upkeep of the plaza throughout the rest of the year in a disgusting manner, and has motivated many people to spread the word of what they are supporting if they do go.

Maybe my disgust of that will dissolve before Oyster fest, and we'll just spend the day with the few hundred of our friends somewhere else, but right now I'm so upset by that, as a promoter, I feel driven to spend my own money to print out flyers to hand out with many of my friends at the entrances to let them know there is something else free going they are welcome to come to.

This is sadly coming from a family that has happily supported this event for over a decade.
