The carriers at Kneeland are being moved to the Arcata Post Office, as is the Bayside carrier. The Hydesville-Carlotta carrier is being moved to Rio Dell, and the carriers from Loleta and Ferndale are being moved to the Fortuna Post Office. The affected offices will probably be turned into branches of the "parent' office, except Kneeland. They will be "discontinued"--meaning they will no longer require a postmaster, since there will no longer be an employee that needs supervision. It's possible this may also happen with the Blue Lake and Trinidad offices. The post office will then put a "clerk-in-charge" type of employee in these offices, similar to the Mckinleyville and Downtown Station offices. The current "Delivery Unit Optimization" action takes affect next Saturday, June 4th. Ferndale has officially had it's post office since the 1850s, most likely, and Bayside got it's post office on December 4, 1886--this December would be it's 125th anniversay.
