I lived all over as a kid, but came back to Humboldt where my parents' families lived when I was 12. Stayed through college at CR and HSU then left for LA and NYC. Lived in NYC for 17 years and found it to be a "small town" maybe even more than Humboldt. I'd still be there, happy just to return to visit in Humboldt, but family drew me back in '05 and now bad health forces me to remain. I like it okay, but it doesn't have a zillion advantages that a large city has that DO MATTER. And the economy sucks with alternate ways to earn a good living being non-existent in my experience. In NYC if one way didn't work, I could find another. Not true here in HumCo.
