Broken trust is a major event. I am afraid that some of Kathy's friends, neighbors and/or customers may have told her that she played a too important role in the community to be evicted, and so not to worry about the lease and her sweet dog.
I hope she'll be able to share her expertise with the next operators of the Stand, or in the beginning of a new enterprise.
I have been living right next door to the Logger for the past five years. Kate Martin, and her employees, have been great neighbors and very easy to work with. I hope any new owners will be as considerate, but also be as positive members of the community as Kate is.
Re: “It's Time to Buckle Up”
I arrived at HSC in 1972, which soon became CSUH for a short idiotic while, then HSU, where I retired (staff) in 2015 or so. Where I spent my freshman year in an old trailer (best dorms on campus in my opinion), there are now mulit-story dorms and a soccer field. Since that time most of the old houses have been removed, new buildings built, new gym/pool, and student population has remained the same, give or take a few hundred over that last half-century.
A half-century of growth suppressed by the Redwood Curtain -- now unleashed like the growing pains I had when I grew two inches in the summer between 8th and 9th grades. I kept tripping over the painted lines on the basketball court, a bit awkwards at times, but in the end, Arcata will come out alright.
I live in Blue Lake now, so I say get 'em built and get it over with as soon as possible. Obviously biased, of course.
PS -- Where is the new Art Building that has been in planning for so long? How do the Arts fit into the Poly Tech scheme of things?
