Thomas, thanks for your summary of the Crabs vs. Studs series. I appreciated reading it. But in explaining the missed 3rd strike rule [which allowed a Studs batter to reach first and eventually score on a sac fly], you inadvertently implied the batter may run anytime a catcher misses a 3rd strike. This is not the case. For a batter to run on a dropped/missed 3rd strike, either first base must be unoccupied, or there must be two outs. The most famous missed 3rd strike occurred in the 9th inning of Game 6 of the 1941 World Series. The Brooklyn Dodgers were leading the Yankees 4-3,when Yankees' Tommy Heinrich swung at & missed strike three, which should have ended the game. But Dodgers' catcher Mickey Owen missed the ball, allowing Heinrich to reach first and the Yankees rallied to win 7-4.
