Re: “A Culture of Civility

Janice T, My experience with John Chive's site is that he moderates for conformity to his story line. It is his blog so he can have it, but unless he has changed his practices, it is not one to be held up as a blog representing high standards.

Civility: formal politeness and courtesy in behavior or speech; polite remarks used in formal conversation
Civil: courteous and polite

Is it civil to say those who provide space for the exchange of ideas have "amped" the language you disagree with because you feel stifled? Is it civil to judge someone as "having "no good reason" simply because they do not hide the anger they feel? Is it civil to imply that a minority that becomes vocal is "rabid", or not "even vaguely decent"?

I too think that the NCJ's approach of requiring a registration process that allows anonymity and accountability is a good one, it provides a space for self moderation. I am also glad that there is the more open forum at LoCo as perhaps it does serve a purpose.
