Re: “Huffman Town Hall Coming to Garberville

Huffman is a traitor and a poltroon. Like ISIS and the Taliban he is all about destroying cultural artifacts and national heritage. He should be run out of town on a rail - after being tarred and feathered.

Re: “Arcata Moves Forward With Sanctuary City Status

#JusticeForJosiah is necessary for Arcata to be a true sanctuary. Who will they be granting sanction? White only immigrants? How will the city and the APD be guaranteeing sanction and safety for immigrants of color? #DemandAnswers

BOYCOTT ARCATA. Don't spend a dime in this lawless town.

Re: “No Homeless People in Southern Humboldt?

The motivation for the "homeless count" to be lower is so the City and County can back up their LIE that they have housed so many people recently. City and County officials have been bragging, FALSELY, about how many people they have gotten into housing. I work EVERY DAY locally with people who have no shelter. There are MORE and MORE people who have become houseless in the past year or so, first timers and people being thrown back on the street, to the green spaces, under bridges, into vehicles, and for short periods of time, in the scant shelter space locally. There is not even close to enough housing to match the number of people that Virginia Bass, Andy Mills, and the their ilk claim have been recently housed. The City of Eureka is being sued for civil rights violations against people with no place to go. The lawsuit, Cobine v. City of Eureka, details how much housing and temporary shelter does NOT exist versus how many people need housing and temporary shelter. Then, the lawsuit clearly asserts what is experienced by anyone who has ever been homeless here: being punished for having no place to go. Local government is trying to overcome that lawsuit and cover up its systematic persecution and denial of basic living needs. Now the City (and County) is adding to its repertoire of LIES: e.g., anyone/everyone can go to the Mission (lie), there's plenty of shelter here (lie), we don't discriminate against homeless people (lie), we just catch 'illegal trespassers' (lie), there's plenty of bathrooms (lie), we take great efforts to feed the hungry (lie) and clothe the naked (lie)etc. ad nauseum. From the City and County (in letters to the editor and other places that are more appropriate for non-politician / non-cop people) the newest LIE they are repeating and wielding is that they have been housing hundreds of people. It's simply NOT TRUE. The City and County do NOTHING to feed hungry people, NOTHING to clothe freezing and wet people, NOTHING to create space for people to sleep, NOTHING to make life or even bare survival any easier or more dignified for people experiencing homelessness. We know plenty of people who get into Betty Chinn's containers, then get kicked out within a short time; we know lots of people injured and sick, admitted into the hospitals, then discharged in short time; we know plenty of parents who simply need housing, and the County doesn't help to provide it but prefers to throw their kids in the foster system for years; we know people going through the high turnover at the MAC (which is rumored to soon close as a transitional shelter). We know even more people who's sleeping areas are raided (throughout the county) and who's vehicles which they live in are impounded, and who go to jail or are made to walk the streets all night and morning when found resting under an awning or tree. I am certain there are not fewer homeless people anywhere in this county; rather, there are MORE people with no shelter.

Re: “Eureka Visitor's Center to Close During Bid Process

Alleluia!!!

How many decades and millions of public dollars have been wasted without a single financial supporting document showing where every dollar is being spent?

Less than half of Eureka's businesses are members of the Chamber and those are the only businesses being promoted at the chamber building.

If Eureka ever truly cared about tourism, business and jobs it would clean up its south entry on 101, end the outrageous sewer odor, never allow its bay to become surrounded in brownfields, regulate their welcome to predatory industries, stop allowing ugly apartments to be built in their Victorian neighborhoods, return the electric trolley on H and I streets, Plan for trails connecting the beautiful gulches, stop supporting the irresponsible growth on its borders causing unsafe streets and sewer problems, and start funding infill affordable and SRO housing instead of subsidizing large home subdivisions, (the only real solution for homelessness).

Our largest tourist attraction is not the ridiculous $1 million per year certified zoo, it is the miles of rivers, streams, forests, parks and biodiversity that are being jeopardized by the county's failure to link every rural development to water carrying-capacity studies...funded by the developers...SoCal redux!!

Thank God that Eureka city council candidate John Fullerton was rejected by Eureka voters.

Re: “Will the Lassics Lupine Survive?

I've actually seen and properly identified this lupin in quite a few different places in Trinity count, after reading this I feel I should probably revisit and report the locations.
Would be nice to see it established in nurseries as it is one of the most beautiful wild lupinus I've come across.

Re: “Share Your Stories About The Two Days That Shook Humboldt

I remember this event very well. My hubby was fishing out on the south jetty and I had planned on taking our youngest daughter to Centerville Beach. I was getting ready to go and my friend called me. She lived in Ferndale. While on the phone, she began screaming. I asked her what was wrong and she said Earthquake! I said I do not feel it. I was living in Fortuna. The phone line went dead. We began to rock and roll. I instructed my daughter to get under the kitchen table. I was trying to secure our 20 gallon fish tank while water was splashing out everywhere. I finally decided to get under the table myself.
While we sat there we watched the kitchen chairs topple over, the dishes falling out of the cupboards. We could hear things falling in the living room.
After the shaking stopped we climbed out and saw everything all over the floor throughout the house.
I remember thinking my hubby must be in the ocean. Then a calm feeling came over me and I knew he was ok. In about a half an hour he came pulling in. He said he was on his way home and he first thought he had a flat tire. He pulled off the road and the pick up felt like there was a gorilla in the bed of the truck jumping up and down. He noticed an old barn in a field falling down.
Later that evening when the second big one hit I was upstairs in bed. I just pulled the covers over my head. After it quit I went downstairs and hubby said he had to go check on the Hardware store he managed. He said there was paint all over and many things on the floor.
We soon learned that the sister store in Scotia was on fire. As we all know that shopping center burned to the ground.
We went up to bed and here came number three. Sounded like a freight train coming through the house. We lost all power and everything was black.
We survived and life went on. Pretty darned scary. A memory I will never forget.

Re: “Skilled Nursing Defendants File for Change of Venue

WHAT?????? That would be costly for his wife?????....what about the family(ies) of the victims????? I would guess their finances are considerably less than what this man spends on food for one month!!!! He is afraid of the truth coming out that he has failed to live up to his agreements/promises.....I have seriously tried to find some "good" in this man and his business practices...there must be good in everything???? - but to date have found none...I am sure there are living arrangements that can be made - possibly giving them a few rooms in one of the facilities he owns, of which he is so proud .....

Re: “Tensions Escalate During Saturday Protest in Arcata

Since when is the halting of another person's free movement and allowing them to leave only after they call or agree to call the DA's office considered a peaceful protest?
Holding signs with messages, yelling and using bull horns to get one's message out to the public, offering to assist people with understanding their message and point of view are all consistent with free speech. Halting movement on public sidewalks or public streets and then forcing people to do their bidding crosses the line and should not be tolerated.
Would these so called protesters be ok with a group of people blocking the entrance to HSU and only allowing entrance or exit to/from HSU only after agreeing to call the DA's office and demanding no charges against Zoellner be filed? I think not and rightfully so.

Re: “Tensions Escalate During Saturday Protest in Arcata

How about instead of just "disliking" my comment at 4:12, you take a moment to tell me exactly why you dislike my comment, so that I might see your light? You're not clicking buttons for justice, you're being a lazy hypocrite. You're being an armchair nobody, and you're not doing anything but handing out pennies to this website's advertisers. The metaphore of "the race card" is well enough understood. And lots of people are calling you "dislikers" out for playing the race card. What does "playing the race card" mean to you? Has it been played in this case? How much do you really know about this case? What's your bias?

Re: “Tensions Escalate During Saturday Protest in Arcata

One girl's sign says "if you aren't angry, you're not paying attention". Where were these protesters after Tommy Mclain was shot by police? Or after a police officer was fired shortly after stomping a fourteen year old? One can't help but feel that if black were white, there would be outrage over the undisputed assault on Kyle Zoellner, and the fact that he was subsequently incarcerated for murder over seriously mishandled evidence. Not to mention the ridiculously inconsistent testimony from the victim's own friends. There's no hope for anybody. The millennials are polarized reactionary internet addicts, feeding eachother's frenzy on a moment to moment basis.

Re: “Judge Dismisses Murder Charge in Slaying of HSU Student

Horray... Now maybe the police can focus on finding the real killer.... maybe one of Lawson's so called "friends" who got in the way when he needed care... Maybe they should all be charged with the vicious attack on Kyle that they all seem to be so proud of doing.

Re: “14-Year Old's 2014 Killing Gang Related, Says EPD

What does being Mexican have to do with it & why do you automatically assume "illegal immigrant"? What an ignorant and racist statement! So if the accused were white or some other race it wouldn't have been filth or monsters? No, what's wrong with the world today is the racist, prejudice, judgemental, ignorant people such as yourself who profile others based on the color of their skin and\or where they were born. F.Y.I. you self righteous asshole all the innocent til proven guilty were born & raised in the U.S.A. also i would suggest to you a little refresher course on your reading & comprehension skills because apparently your lacking knowledge & understanding.
