Re: “'Crippling'

Perhaps Humboldt County should determine WHY they have "We have the highest rate of addiction, the highest rate of death by firearm, the highest suicide rate in California", and try to find answers within our county, rather than simply requesting help.

Re: “A Word about the 'Threat' of White Supremacy

Taxidude: Yes, this is satire. I am not actually David Duke and Spike Lee's The Blakkklansman does not portray the Ku Klux Klan as inclusive.

Learn to code: Ignorance of racism and those who would do harm to me and mine would be a luxury, but it's one I don't have.

Re: “New Survey Reveals Who Owns Guns in California — and How Many Got Them Without Background Checks

I put my gun on the table and I says to it , gun go kill someone...... I waited and waited. Nothing happened! People kill people. Or more correctly mentally unbalanced, no empathy people kill innocent people. God bless

Re: “A Word about the 'Threat' of White Supremacy

I seriously hope this is an attempt at sarcasm and satire. The ideolgy presented in this article is pathetic at best and the problem of racism and dismissal of racism in this country is far reaching. Yes it is a problem in our society and the current leaders of our country are making it much, much worse.

Re: “UPDATE: Missing Humboldt Hiker Found Dead After Massive Search Effort

Rather heartless, Mr. Zero. Mr. Komins was an EMT and a volunteer firefighter. You know what that means? It means he saved peoples lives. Everybodys lives. Lots of them. A real loss. A family who loved this man and your concern is how much money was spent trying to rescue him. Daniel is in heaven. Keep up such cold heartless comments and you will find yourself very uncomfortably burning in...when it is your time. Take your hate someplace else.

Re: “UPDATE: Missing Humboldt Hiker Found Dead After Massive Search Effort

So all this money and those resources spent because some yuppie wanted to play adventurer. No one should be backpacking alone! That is a no brainer (for people with brains). The taxpayer has to pay out over and over again so idiots can be saved: people stuck on a river rock, college kids washed onto a coastal cliff, arrogant hikers lost in back country. Humans should not even be in wilderness or sensitive areas. The earth needs to heal. Reckless people should stay home and play Russian roulette.

Re: “Friendly City Police Contract Negotiations Get Feisty

Fortuna can't pay their excellent police force what they are worth, but STILL refuses to allow cannabis dispensaries within city limits. "Cannabis Business Tax (5-15%)
Local governments (city or county) also have the ability to tax cannabis sales at their discretion. These local cannabis business tax rates can range anywhere between five and 15 percent and are charged at the point-of-sale on top of the products selling price. The funds typically go toward local services.

Re: “Photos from the Lantern Floating Ceremony

Thanks for the coverage and pictures.

How ironic it is to burn thousands of pounds of jet-fuel, per person, round trip to Japan, thus contributing to one atrocity in order to commemorate another.

Re: “'Ground Zero:' Coastal Commission Approves Safety Corridor Project, Worries Sea Level Rise May Leave it Under Water

Thanks to NCJ for the coverage of the Caltrans and HCOAG plan to build a monument to stupidity. As dangerous as driving 101 can be (slow down people!!) the fact that climate change and sea level rise is not understood as a grave danger to public health and safety is a fatal flaw in the conceptual basis of this boondoggle.
