Re: “The Limits of Fidelity

As for perfection in Blade Runner 2049, there are moments when knowing more than the filmmaker can jolt a viewer out of their suspension of reality. The beekeeping scene is just wrong.

Re: “Hero Immerses, Big Sick Shines

Dear Filmland,
If you review Valerian, I would like to ask you please to call the film out on the weird sexist cliches it is chock full of. Not to mention its treatment of the POC sex slave character. *spoilers* Her stated motivation in life is to please the mens, and she is promptly disposed of by giving her life for white protagonists she just met. I would love to see this movie gender-swapped. I think it would be really illuminating. Instead, both leads captured by same aliens while leads are wearing high-tech combat suits that let them crash through walls. Male lead escapes and plot takes him to red light district and aforementioned sex slave, meanwhile female lead waits for rescue while being dressed in sexy dresses by aliens who only see her as food. Why? Why?

Re: “Hero Immerses, Big Sick Shines

Would be helpful if this review started off with a description of the movie and then a general review, leaving the increasingly detailed, historic, film-school type commentary left to the end so the rest of us who just want to see a film and haven't the time but are trying to get a quick idea if this might be the one can benefit from reviews.

Re: “Boom

Richard Pryor wrote Blazing Saddles with Mel Brooks it's got Pryor's humor, insight and irreverence all over it. See our previously declared love of this classic here, cowboy: https://www.northcoastjournal.com/AEBlog/a…

Re: “Boom

Re: “Who Run the World?

The title is a line from Beyonce's "Run the World (Girls)," in which she asks, "Who run the world?/ Girls." You can enjoy it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBmMU_iwe6…

Re: “Who Run the World?

I'm not getting the title of the review. Does it just need proofing?

Re: “Bad, Bad Men

I saw this movie, just yesterday. What a horrible piece of crap!!. Gratuitous violence off the charts, ridiculous fight scenes; he gets run over, by cars, two or three times and just gets up and keeps fighting??? Stupid. I got up and walked out after the first hour. Don't waste your money, like I did, on this one.

Re: “Only the Lonely

Actually there are other characters in The Lobster who have names. Ben Whishaw is John, John C, Reilly is introduced as Robert, and the dog's name is Bob.

Re: “Return to Youth

I hated "Bridesmaids" because I didn't find it funny in the slightest. It had absolutely nothing to do with "exclusionary thinking."

You may not be the target audience for Minions. My kids thought it was hilarious. :)

Re: “The Lady Astonishes

Gone Girl turns to literally unbelievable crap. Save your money, ignore the reviews, and worry -- a lot -- about what has happened to average intelligence.

Re: “Jersey Snore

Wow, terrible review. I really liked the movie, as did my friends. I also read so many reviews from people who really loved the movie - I wouldn't go by one person's opinion! Especially if you like the music and it's a great story, well acted. BTW - one of the best Broadway musicals we've ever seen.

Re: “Overseas Visitors

I liked Godzilla in Jurassic Park III.5 when the plane lands on the Island and both he and the giant purple Barniosaurus immediately attack the people inside and eat them all. It was a disappointingly short movie.

Re: “Amazing

Marvel (Disney) doesn't have the film rights to Spiderman, Sony does. That's why we haven't seen Spidey connected to the Avengers universe. Otherwise, good write up!
