Re: “Is This the Direction Agriculture is Going in Humboldt County?

Is it just me, or does this cartoon miss something? Tell me that young hippie couple weren't trying to pay the mortgage on their land selling corn and carrots?

Re: “No Flare For You

Re: “May The Forest Be WIth You

Seems rather ironic. Scientists are trying to save the planet, from other scientists. Unfortunately the ones who create destructive chemicals seem to be much better funded than those who are are trying to neutralize their effect.
Also the anthropomorphic depiction of the forest is deceitful. Nature (other than homo sapiens) is neither for or against anything, it simply is. Would that we were capable of being that pure. The beasts and plants were not cast out of Paradise into linear time.
Considering we cannot live without bias, should it not be "MAY WE BE WITH THE FOREST?"

Re: “Pot vs. Fish

Who would have thought that the marijuana "industry" would turn out to be worse than the lumber industry was for this area? A cost/benefit analysis and comparison of the two would be interesting, I bet Maxxam ends up looking pretty golden.

Q. Where are the Forest Defenders now?

A. They took their settlement moneys and ran to the hills to destroy the ecosystem more thoroughly than the lumber industry ever could.

Re: “Fortuna Marijuana Storage

What's really funny is the hidden, perhaps unintentional reference to http://wattsupwiththat.com/ Run by Northern California's own Anthony Watts, with frequent guest articles from many scientists in many fields. Not that we shouldn't care about the environmental evils of power sourced from coal and dams, but if 1 in 4 of us don't believe in human caused climate change, it kinda saps the urgency of the message.

Re: “Eureka Style

My fifteen-year-old Camry has a spoiler, which came with the car when I bought it used in 1998. I can't imagine driving around without it. It adds that extra measure of stability that gives me confidence when I am driving at high speed. Even backing down my driveway, I feel sure that it gives me the control over my vehicle that I need to avoid running over letter carriers or kids on trikes.
