Re: “UPDATE: CHP Seeking Persons of Interest in Fortuna Hit and Run

The home where the jeep was found is where one of the girls lives, it was her mom's jeep. How can a mom hit her daughter, and her daughters friend and leave? Now she is in hiding. She wants all the OMG's from people who don't know she is the reason for their deaths. There is no reason on earth why you leave someone to die. It is flat out murder

Eric is my brother, I just learned of his death on the news. Praying for your congregation there. Please keep his 5 siblings and dad in yours.

Re: “UPDATE: CHP Seeking Persons of Interest in Fortuna Hit and Run

Ya'll are a bunch of self-righteous asshats! This is an EXTREMELY SENSITIVE issue and unusual case that doesn't warrant assumptions and/or judgments. Yes, we can assume what we might think happened, yet the truth hasn't been released to my knowledge. There's SO MUCH HATE in the world, why not try to step back and have empathy for all involved.

Re: “UPDATE: St. Bernard's Pastor Killed Overnight in Church Rectory

Oh God NOOOO!!!!! Father Eric was an incredible man. I spent all my years at HSU at the Newman Center with Father Eric at the helm and my Senior year as President of the Newman Center working with him.

I love him very much and am missing him terribly. RIP my dear friend.

I hope they catch who ever did this!

Re: “Arcata Co-op Security Accused of Using Excessive Force

I will not shop there again until he is fired. Stealing hurts everyone but this guy lost it. I especially do not like that he intimidated a witness to the situation and tried to take their camera.

Re: “UPDATE: CHP Seeking Persons of Interest in Fortuna Hit and Run

I agree with Becky not only did she not stop she covered the vehicle with a tarp to hide it. The police should have put a warrant out for her arrest. They got a tip on were the vehicle was she didn't come forward on her own. And now she's in hiding and not in jail wow.

Re: “Prosecutors Weighing Death Penalty in Murder Case

This worthless human was a soldier of mine while I was at FT Hood. We court martialed him because he cause way to many problems, drugs, alcohol and disobedience as well as violent threats. This kid didn't care about anyone and just did what he wanted to. He was a big "talker" in the army as well. Always claiming he had done this and he had done that. He is that kind of person who WOULD do something like this and he SHOULD get the death penalty because of the fact he has no remorse for why he did

Re: “UPDATE: CHP Seeking Persons of Interest in Fortuna Hit and Run

All I see in the foregoing posts is presumptions and speculations...just read a post from the CHP that they are NOT releasing information yet about the identity of the suspect....even if you live next door and think you know more than anyone else and make comments about the mother of one of the victims YOU ARE OUT OF LINE and are putting this investigation in jeopardy....until the CHP releases their findings it is best to keep your mouth closed....and not share rumors and speculations with anyone...if you know something DO NOT post it in comments like this but get in touch with the CHP or the Fortuna Police Dept.....REMEMBER we all want JUSTICE for these 2 young girls but starting gossip or sharing what you THINK you know is causing more harm than good....follow the CHP's updates and let them know if you DO know something about this horrible and sad situation.....Just wanted to share my thinking.....

Re: “Former Arcata Restaurant Owner Killed by New York Police

Nonsense.

Read the article: Unless an officer's life is threatened, deadly force is unwarranted.

Just like the last depression, people are flooding junior colleges to get that 2-year police academy degree for the fat pension plans. Too many are terrified and incapable of "protect and serve".

Thousands of Americans are killed each year by police and the huge "no-fault" settlements drain city budgets.

Re: “Jason Singleton Responds

he claims that if the building departments didn't approve of these buildings he has shut down they wouldn't have these problems, well take a look at most the businesses he has targeted, those buildings where built way before the ada act of 1994. so the cost to retro fit them for the disabled is to high and the business has to shut down. he is using a law to scam people and put money into his pockets. people quit defending him saying he is just defending the law.

Re: “Humboldt County is About to See More Feds Hunting Marijuana

As the bumper sticker says, "US Out Of Humboldt County". Look to see more boarded-up buildings as the only industry (besides government jobs and welfare) keeping things barely afloat is further destroyed in order to further the interests of the Pharmaceutical Drug Cartel.

Automatically talking about sexual abuse because he is a Catholic priest is hate speech. It's like saying ignorant things like all Muslims are bombers or all Black people are uneducated. Your hateful ignorance is offensive. Not to mention sick. Evil is in the minds of evil peoples. May God rest his soul. Good priests are the salt of the earth.

Re: “Arcata Co-op Security Accused of Using Excessive Force

I will also no longer shop there as well. I'm not a fan of theft either, we all have to pay for it. But with theft there could at least be reason; I know I would steal bread to feed my child if I was in a situation where that had become my only option. I know nothing of the thief's back story or the loss prevention "officer." However, I do know that, considering the relative sizes and strengths of the "officer" vs. the woman pinned to the concrete with a knee to her neck, there is no possible way that extreme level of force was necessary. Then, after using that much force to prevent theft, he goes and tries to intimidate and STEAL a camera from a bystander? Are you fu*$ing kidding me? That sounds a lot like anger management issues to me, not a good thing for that line of work. We will "investigate it fully" says the Co-op store manager. Sounds like he missed out on a career in politics.

Re: “UPDATE: St. Bernard's Pastor Killed Overnight in Church Rectory

To Lisa W: So sorry for your families loss and our prayers are with you all.

As someone who had met Father Eric only a few times I was impressed with him. He was one of the few people to reached out to the Muslim community here in Humboldt and encouraged people to learn about and respect each others different views. I remember a few years ago when Father Eric brought his class to our prayer service and Ramadan dinners so they could learn about Islam and who Muslims were face to face. I also remember as a nurse Father Eric coming into the ICU to visit the sick a few months ago and having the chance to briefly catch up with him. While I did not know him well I did see the goodness and love the man had for all people. Such a shame to lose such a kind man. May God Mighty and Majestic bring his killer(s) to justice in this life and the next!

Re: “Concerned Community Members Flood Meeting to Discuss Firing of Woman who 'Put the K in KHSU'

Grow up, Humboldt County.
KHSU is desperately in need of an organizational enema starting with showing the door to the legions of people who have been there for far too long and are an albatross around the station's neck. Good riddance.

For as much as the community hates HSU, it simultaneously believes that it is entitled to control KHSU. The community has been leaning on street drug use and economics for way too long. The best outcome is for the community to completely withdraw all of its financial support of KHSU thus enabling KHSU to completely free itself of the arrogance and ignorance of the community and ignore the fools of think they get to decide on the day-to-day operations of KHSU. Sickening this whole sordid matter. And so long Katie Whiteside. Do us all a favor and leave California.

Re: “Jason Singleton Responds

Advocacy is defined as "public support for or recommendation of a particular cause or policy". From what I have personally seen over the years from you and your office doesn't even come close to advocacy. Your clients have the same m.o. each and every time. They would roll into the place of business, spend 5 minutes inside, then roll out. Never say a word to the owner or manager. Then roll out. They have not asked for access to anything. They don't spend a dime at that particular place of business. How is it possible for someone who lives over 100 miles away happen to be here in Eureka to purchase a simple tool that could be purchased less than 10 miles from their home? 2 Weeks later, the owner receives a letter from your office addressing the issues the named Plaintiff has not personally seen. The owner would then call you, explain the situation, your respond by saying either do the work or pay me. When the owner "settles" with you, you then tell that owner "There is no guarantee I won't sue you again." I was there when you told the owner this.
When you say, tax credits are available, why don't you mention this? If a business owner does not have the CASH to make the necessary changes, what difference does it make there are tax CREDITS available anyway? When a small business is barely profitable, why go in and take that profit away from your frivolous lawsuit? "What is not in the media is the hundreds of letters my office and my clients have written that obtain access without a lawsuit." Out of those hundreds of letters, how many were settled out of court that ended up lining your pocket? Now who is lying?
