@JB: Your description of a closed system unaccepting of newcomers is why I look forward to leaving my current small Oregon town and returning to Humboldt. In Humboldt it's a common conversation-starter to ask where somebody's from. In Curry County the answer is usually that their great grandfather moved there and the family never left.
