Trinidad Memorial Ceremony

The ceremony begins with bagpipe music by Matthew Marshall. Dana Hope, Trinidad Civic Club Co-President, presides over the ceremony and welcomes guests, followed by the flag ceremony and pledge of allegiance led by Girls Scouts from the Redwood Service Unit. The Rev. Nancy Streufert, Priest Associate, St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Arcata, gives the invocation and vocalist Samantha Day sings "Amazing Grace." A representative from the United States Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay addresses the audience. Patti Fleschner, Trinidad Civic Club Historian, reads “Eternal Father Strong to Save” by William Whiting. Trinidad City Mayor Cheryl Kelly rings the Trinidad Head Lighthouse Keeper's cottage bell. Janine Volkmar, Trinidad Civic Club Recording Secretary, reads the 296 memorial names, followed by a USCG helicopter flyover. Saxophonist Matthew Brogdon plays "Taps” to close the ceremony.
