Francis Ford Coppola’s 1983 film (PG 13) is based on S.E. Hinton’s classic and compelling novel The Outsiders. Set in 1950s Tulsa, Oklahoma, the story follows Ponyboy and his friends, 'the Greasers' who are looked down on by the "Soc's" or Socials, rich kids from the sweet side of the tracks. Ponyboy likes 'Soc' Cherry (a bit of an outsider herself) but it seems hopeless -- the lines are drawn -- and then he gets into bad trouble. There are moments of humor, callousness, cruelty, heroism and humanity, heartfelt drama in a challenging story that still rings true.
