Town Halls Turn Angry

I remember

Long summer days

And quiet, tree-lined streets

Filled with friendly neighbors

Who smiled often and spoke kindly.

My mother

Was a Republican

Who didn't always support

Her Grand Old Party,

However,

She did help elect

The first woman mayor

In our City by the Bay.

I don't remember

Angry crowds

Acting out poorly,

Or feeling threatened in any way -

Just respectful adults

Doing their homework

And sharing information

Before entering a booth

That held all of our dreams.
