Starting tomorrow, winds will increase during the day as a cold front makes its way into the region. There will also be rain and heavy snow is expected to start falling in the mountains of Trinity County on Saturday afternoon.

Those flurries are forecast to continue into early next week, with snow levels getting progressively lower from Monday into Tuesday, according to the Eureka office of the National Weather Service.

“Heavy snow will subsequently become probable across the passes of (State Route) 36 in southern Trinity County as well as Berry Summit on (State Route) 299 in eastern Humboldt County, and Collier Tunnel on (U.S. Route) 199 in Del Norte County,” the NWS states in a post.

Meanwhile, the strongest winds are expected to hit along the higher peaks of Del Norte and Humboldt counties as well as coastal headlands late Saturday afternoon and into the evening.

“Winds will diminish substantially in the wake of the cold front Saturday night,” according to NWS. “Periods of gusty southerly winds will continue through Monday, but will not be as strong as this episode, with gusts below the Wind Advisory threshold of 45 mph.”
