Yesterday, Humboldt County Public Health held a press conference with Health Officer Ian Hoffman, Emergency Operations Center Operations Chief Sofia Pereira, Humboldt State University Director of Risk Management and Safety Services Cris Koczera and Joint Information Center spokesperson Meriah Miracle to update the public on the county COVID-19 response and answer reporters' questions.

Here are the key takeaways:

• Pereira said Public Health is wrapping up mass vaccination clinics to focus more on mobile vaccine clinics for those who live in the more rural areas of the county. Vaccine clinics for homebound people are also set to begin next week.
• Koczera said HSU is gearing up to slowly repopulate the campus with students in the fall for in-person courses, recreation activities and campus life.
• Hoffman spoke about what Humboldt County should expect in the coming months with California’s reopening date, June 15, approaching, COVID variants spreading, case counts rising and a significant portion of Humboldt’s population still unvaccinated. Hoffman said he expects cases to peak in the middle of the summer and that COVID-19 variants are still an area of concern.
• California’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy will also be gone and, although businesses won’t be required to follow COVID-19 compliant guidelines, Hoffman said they are still highly recommended.
