Starting now,  Humboldt County residents looking to receive a COVID-19 vaccine need to register through the state's My Turn site as part of a transition to Blue Shield taking over vaccine distribution and registration.

According to the county's release, residents who filled out the county's vaccine interest form will have to do so again on the state's My Turn website (which can be found here) as county information will not be rolled over to the state's database.

Those who have already received one dose do not need to use My Turn for scheduling and should receive an email from Public Health or contact from the original provider about second dose information, according to a news release.

Gov. Gavin Newsom announced the state's transitions to Blue Shield's oversight in February, with the goal of speeding up and streamlining the distribution process. 
As of March 29, Humboldt County had administered 57,326 doses of vaccine, with 22,365 residents (16.45 percent) fully vaccinated and 14,365 residents (10.57 percent) partially vaccinated.

The change comes on the heels of thousands of Humboldt County residents entering the vaccine line, which expanded to those 50 years and older on April 1. Next week, on April 15, all Californians 16 and older become eligible to make an appointment.

Meanwhile, county officials are continuing to urge residents to get tested COVID-19, saying those numbers have dropped "considerably" in recent months and noting the importance those tests play in identifying and limiting the spread of disease in the community.

Humboldt County is now using the State of California’s “My Turn” platform for COVID-19 vaccination notifications and scheduling.

My Turn is an online system that allows residents to check eligibility and book vaccination appointments locally as they become available. All counties are required to adopt this new platform to continue receiving COVID-19 vaccine allocations from the state as part of an effort to increase the pace of vaccine distribution and administration.

As part of this transition, Humboldt County’s online “Vaccine Interest Form” will no longer be utilized.

• If you filled out the Interest Form but have not received a dose of COVID-19 vaccine, submit your information through My Turn (MyTurn.ca.gov) to be notified of eligibility and sign up for an appointment.

• If you have received the first dose of a two-dose vaccine from public health and need a second dose, do not use My Turn. You should receive a second-dose appointment invitation from public health via email five to seven days prior to a clinic.  If you received your first dose from another provider in Humboldt County, that provider will contact you to schedule the second dose.

• If you have not received a dose of COVID-19 vaccine, go to MyTurn.ca.gov to learn more about eligibility, schedule an appointment and receive updates about available appointments and locations. Public Health clinics are available for registration on My Turn starting this week. More providers in Humboldt will be transitioning to My Turn in the coming weeks for their first-dose appointments.

My Turn requires users to schedule both their first and second dose appointments at the same time. Please note that it may be very difficult to reschedule missed second-dose appointments through the state’s system, and residents should select appointment times carefully to ensure both doses of a two-dose vaccine are received within the recommended 42-day timeframe.

The system also requires an email address or mobile phone. Those without access to email or a mobile phone or who have questions about My Turn can call the California COVID-19 Hotline at 1-833-422-4255 (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday-Sunday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
