SECOND UPDATE: Caltrans reports U.S. Highway 101 has fully reopened.
UPDATE:
A section of U.S. Highway 101 between Willits and Laytonville has reopened but the roadway remains closed from Cummings to north of Laytonville in Mendocino County.
PREVIOUS:
U.S. Highway 101 remains closed in both directions north of Willits due to heavy snow, downed trees and hazardous conditions with no estimated time for re-opening.
"Crews are on site now and will open up the highway as soon as possible," a Caltrans Facebook post states. "We will provide updates as soon as they are available."
North Coast state Sen. Mike McGuire indicated the road crews will have their hands full in the midst of the
storm that brought heavy rain, high winds and some snow to the region yesterday and is forecast to continue throughout today.
"Caltrans crews are on scene (grateful for their hard work) but it's a mess," McGuire wrote on Twitter. "No estimated time of re-opening."
