Snow is falling on State Route 299 this afternoon. According to the National Weather Service in Eureka,
Snow levels are locally lower than forecast over portions of Trinity County this afternoon, around 2500 feet in spots. Roadways are slushy and slick above 2500 feet over Oregon Mountain & Buckhorn Summits now, with several inches accumulation possible by the roadside before snow showers taper off this evening.
A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect above 2500 feet in northern Trinity County.
Caltrans is reporting chains are required on 299 in several sections. See QuickMap before you travel for the areas of latest concern. (Be sure to add the filter under OPTIONS for ROAD CONDITIONS then CHAIN CONTROLS.)
