The Humboldt Independent Practice Association’s Boys to Men group is introducing a new project known as the Boys to Men Group Legacy Library that will be available to all McKinleyville Middle School, McKinleyville High School and Humboldt Court and Community School students.

The Boys to Men group was first established in January at McKinleyville Middle School as a way to support the well-being of male-identified students and, in a way, work to address Humboldt County’s high rate of adverse childhood experiences in a small portion of the county.

The group, which features mentors who talk about the obstacles that they've overcome, meets once a week to discuss toxic masculinity, being mindful of their actions and finding their identities. among other topics.

The Boys to Men group has since been expanded to McKinleyville High School and Humboldt County Office of Education’s Court and Community School and Humboldt County Juvenile Hall.

The Priority Care Center is looking for donations to help the library grow its collection. Books can be purchased by calling Blake’s Books in McKinleyville at 839-8800.

“Our hope is that these books will make it into the hands of our upcoming generations and make a positive impact within their lives for many years to come,” a news release states.

The Priority Care Center is collaborating with the McKinleyville Middle School and creating a new project called: Boys To Men: Beyond Bullies Legacy Library.

Boys to Men: Beyond Bullies group was created in January 2020 by the Priority Care Center in collaboration with McKinleyville Middle School to support the well-being of male identified students. Community based male mentors who have overcome adversity share their experiences and what they have learned with interested students.

We’re gathering books to create a: "Boys To Men: Beyond Bullies" legacy library. These books have been recommended by our current mentors for middle school and high school aged male identified students. They will be stored and available to students at McKinleyville Middle School, McKinleyville High School, and The Humboldt County Office of Education Court and Community School.

We will be collecting books until the end of the year so there is plenty of time to make donations! All book purchases will go directly to the school site libraries. Books can be purchased by calling: Blake’s Books directly in McKinleyville at (707) 839-8800.

Our hope is that these books will make it into the hands of our upcoming generations and make a positive impact within their lives for many years to come!
