UPDATE: Homicide Investigation in Eureka

UPDATE:

A 48-year-old man found in Old Town this morning with severe injuries has died and the Eureka Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in the case, which is being investigated as a homicide.

Officers arrived at the scene of J and Third streets around 11:30 a.m. to find the man with bleeding around his face. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“It appears the incident occurred at the southeast corner of Third and J streets near a fenced off construction site,” an EPD news release states. “Based on nearby surveillance, there was foot and vehicle traffic in the area at the time.”

No suspects have been arrested at this time, according to police.

PREVIOUS:

A man with severe lacerations to his head and neck was rushed to St. Joseph Hospital in Eureka this morning and law enforcement has blocked off the area where the man was found.

According to Brittany Powell, spokesperson for Eureka Police, “We received a call at 11:30 a.m. of a male on the ground bleeding with significant injuries at 3rd and J.”

Eureka Police detectives are on scene investigating and Chief Steve Watson showed up at the scene also.

Soon afterward, officers questioned a man at 3rd and Commercial and took that man into custody. Watson told the Redheaded Blackbelt that officers are investigating whether the man is connected to the bleeding victim.

On November 2, 2020, at about 11:30 a.m., officers with the Eureka Police Department (EPD) responded to the area of J and 3rd Streets for the report of man down on the sidewalk with severe bleeding around the face.

Officers arrived on scene and located a 48-year-old male with significant injuries. Humboldt Bay Fire and City Ambulance responded and transported the male to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. This case is being investigated as a homicide.

No suspects have been arrested at this time. Detectives are looking to speak to anyone who may have video surveillance or may have seen anything suspicious on November 2, 2020 around 11:30 a.m. It appears the incident occurred at the southeast corner of 3rd and J streets near a fenced off construction site.
