[Humboldt, CA] — The League of Women Voters of Humboldt County hosted an online candidate forum on Zoom Friday, October 23rd, featuring two candidates running for the Second District Supervisor.
Two candidates running for the Second District Supervisor participated: Michelle Bushnell and Estelle Fennell. Questions were curated ahead of time by League members, and League member Judy Bennett moderated the event.
Following an opening statement from each candidate, the forum continued with a series of questions. Each candidate had one minute to respond. Questions included topics such as candidates’ perspectives on homelessness, plans to prepare for the impacts of climate change, and Humboldt County’s lack of mental health services.
The mission of the League of Women Voters is to encourage informed and active participation in government. While these forums were held in person or live at KEET-TV in the past, the League chose to move forward in a socially-distant forum for this election year. While the election process can often be overwhelming and confusing, the League works to help voters feel empowered with helpful information in order to be better informed.
Eight candidate forums, for the Second District Supervisor, Fortuna City Council, Northern Humboldt Union High School District, Humboldt Community Services District, McKinleyville Community Services District, McKinleyville Union School District, the City of Arcata, and the City of Eureka, have already been recorded and can be viewed on the League of Women Voters of Humboldt County’s YouTube channel.
Each forum will be recorded and uploaded to the League of Women Voters of Humboldt County’s YouTube channel the following day. Registered voters are encouraged to watch any forums relevant to them.
