Slater-Devil Fires: Combined 154,597 acres and 51 percent containment

On the Slater Fire, which is 154,814 acres, air support is available for use as smoke conditions allow while ground crews continue maintaining and extending fire line, according to today's update.

Major developments on the fire includes:
  • Work to continue to hold the fire near the Sucker Creek and Left Fork of Sucker Creek drainages, with the aim to extend fire line along Swan Ridge
  • Firefighters are continuing line construction and road prep above Thompson Creek heading north through Mill Creek. Existing containment lines are being reinforced and the aim is to extend direct and indirect fire lines.
  • Containment lines are holding on the southern side of the fire as crews continue to mop up and patrol in Happy Camp and up to Kelly Lake.
  • On the west side, direct and indirect attacks are being made on the fire to prevent its westward movement as firefighters work to push the fire down to containment lines in the Knopki Creek area east of Highway 199.
  • Crews are working on hot spots north of Sanger Lake and hazard tree removal is continuing on the section of State Route 96 that accesses Happy Camp.
Containment lines on the Devil Fire, which is at 8,598 acres, are holding on the north and south sides, according to today's update.

"There is active fire in a snag patch to the east, but containment lines are holding," the update states. "Crews will continue to patrol the southwest flank and work on direct line into the Fort Goff Creek area."
