August Complex Holds at 51 Percent Containment

AUGUST COMPLEX: 979,386 acres, 51 percent containment

U.S. Forest Service officials and fire managers have rearranged the zones of the August Complex into the Northwest Zone, Northeast Zone, South Zone and West Zone.

According to today's press release, firefighters are gaining ground on a number of fronts amid fair weather, pushing the fire "slowly back down toward State Route 36 along the northeast fire perimeter."

The fire has spotted into the Pickett Fire burned area. Crews continuing to improve dozer lines and provide structure protection in the Ruth Lake area and to north along Mad River and Van Duzen roads to SR 36. Using forest roads and old fuel breaks, dozer lines are being made northwest of Post Mountain to South Fork Trinity River to prevent the fire from spreading north toward Hyampom.

Extreme fire conditions exist "with dry vegetation, drought conditions, very low relative humidity, record temperatures, and potential for additional wind events," the update states, with officials again asking residents in evacuation areas to obey the orders.

Evacuation warnings in Humboldt County:
Zone HA: Areas east of Bell Springs Road, to Trinity County line and south of Pipe Creek to Mendocino County line.
Zone HB: South of Fort Sewart Road/Ware Ranch Road,west of the Trinity County line, east of the Eel River at Powers Creek, north of the Eel River at Pipe Creek. Trinity County line and south from Showers Pass Road to Upper Larabee Creek. Zone HD: South of Ohman Creek/Pepperwood Springs, west of Dyerville Loop, north of Benbow, east of Highway 101.
Zone HG: South of Hayfield Creek, east of the Eel River to the Trinity County Line, north of Stewart Ranch Road. Zone HH: South of Stapp Road, east of Baker Creek/Little Van Duzen River to the Trinity County Line, north of Bear Creek. Zone HI: South of Olsen Creek, west of Baker Creek/Little Van Duzen River, east of Alderpoint Road/Kneeland Road, north of Hayfield Creek.
