The Slater and Devil Fires continue to spread and remain zero percent contained as of this morning's update from the U.S. Forest Service. The Devil Fire near Happy Camp is estimated at 4,149 acres and the Slater Fire, which straddles the Californa-Oregon border along Highway 199 northeast of Crescent City, is estimated at 126,333 acres.
Evacuation orders remain in effect for most of Happy Camp. Evacuation warnings are in effect for Gasquet, while nearby communities of Hiouchi and Big Flat are on Level 1 “Get Ready” alert.
The update also states there is an in-person, socially-distanced public meeting today at the Gasquet Ranger Station at 3 p.m. to provide more information about the fires and mitigation efforts. There will also be two virtual public meetings on Facebook Live today:
