Emergency Crews Search for Crash Site

UPDATE:
The driver has reportedly self-extricated and has an injury to his arm. He has been transported to a local hospital for treatment.

PREVIOUSLY:
A multi-agency search is underway north of Fortuna to find the scene of a car crash, after a trapped driver called 911 from his cell phone this morning.

Emergency personnel are searching for a man trapped in a crashed vehicle off Hwy 101 north of Fortuna.

According to a dispatcher directing the personnel, a man called 911 about 8:50 a.m. saying he had accidentally crashed his vehicle off southbound U.S. Highway 101 at Palmer Boulevard., north of Fortuna, and landed near the river bar.

According to the dispatcher, the man said the vehicle was into a tree and might not be visible from the road. He also said he was trapped and couldn’t even honk his horn.

Fortuna Fire, CalFire and the Eel River Valley Technical Rescue were dispatched. A request is also in to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office for quads and equipment to access the vehicle an  AirOps has been requested to assist.
