Supes Approve Genomic Sequencing of Local COVID-19 Samples, T-S reports

The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors today approved an agreement with Chan Zuckerberg Biohub to provide access to positive samples from COVID-19 tests conducted by the public health lab in an effort to better understand local transmission by having the nonprofit research organization map the virus’ genomic sequencing, the
Times-Standard reports.
Based in the Bay Area and founded by pediatrician Priscilla Chan and her husband Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook, Biohub partners with Stanford, UC Berkeley and UC San Francisco and is conducting the same research on other regions, according to the agenda item's staff report. There is no cost to the county.
