News Roundup: LoCo Reports Whistleblowers at FedEx and T-S Looks at Mental Health Services in Age of COVID

Posted By on Sat, Apr 4, 2020 at 8:09 AM

The Lost Coast Outpost is reporting that whistleblowers are calling out what they deem unsafe conditions in local FedEx operations that could spread the COVID-19 virus to customers and employees.

The employees tell the Outpost's Ryan Burns that they don't believe proper precautions are being taken in the local warehouse and they haven't been given proper protective equipment to safely deliver packages throughout the county, especially given that at least one study has shown the virus can live on cardboard for up to 24 hours. Read Burns' full story here.

The Outpost's Stephanie McGeary, meanwhile, has an interview with an Open Door doctor, who talks maternity care, anxiety management and why we should all be wearing masks. Check it out here.

Speaking of anxiety, the Times-Standard's Shomik Mukherjee has a piece about how local mental health services have pivoted to virtual services, like phone consultations and video conferences. Read the full story here.

Also in the Times-Standard, Sonia Waraich has a piece about domestic violence in age of COVID-19 shelter-in-place orders. Check it out here.

The Pepperbox's Fiona Murphy, meanwhile, reports that Northern Humboldt Union High School District has officially made the call to follow state and local health officials' recommendations and cancel all face-to-face instruction for the remainder of the year. Read Murphy's piece here.
