With schools throughout Humboldt County having been shuttered to prevent the spread of COVID-19, Access Humboldt is trying to bridge the digital divide. At least temporarily.

The nonprofit reached out to Altice-Suddenlink, which agreed to offer households with students in its service area that don’t currently have internet access free broadband for 60 days. At the end of the 60-day period, customers could elect to continue for $14.99 a month or disconnect.

Access Humboldt applauds effort to help k-12, Community College and University students

Eureka CA, March 19, 2020 - 

Access Humboldt works to connect local communities with broadband media for: public health & safety, education, economic development, culture & arts, and civic engagement. 

As part of these ongoing efforts, Access Humboldt reached out to Altice - Suddenlink management in Texas and confirmed an important offer for disconnected students who live in areas served by Suddenlink in Humboldt County.  According to Government Affairs senior director at Altice USA:

For households with K-12 and/or college students who may be displaced due to school closures and who do not currently have home internet access, Suddenlink is offering its Altice Advantage 30 Mbps broadband solution FREE for 60 days to new customer households within their service area footprint.

Eligible households interested in this solution can call 888-633-0030 to enroll.

At the end of the 60-day period, Suddenlink's Altice Advantage plan of $14.99/month would be available.

There would be no charge for cancelling service at the end of 60-days should the new customer elect not to continue.

There will be no charges during the 60-day window.  Beyond that, if the customer chooses to continue Altice Advantage service, there will be a $14.99 monthly charge + applicable taxes, but no fees would be charged for equipment.
