At approximately 2:30 p.m. today, a man robbed the Northern Redwood Federal Credit Union, which is located in the Valley West area of Arcata on the 1200 block of Guintoli Lane. According to Arcata Police Chief Brian Ahearn, the suspect walked up to a teller and presented a demand note.

“[He] said he had a gun,” Ahearn said. “[But] no gun seen.” The suspect was provided an unknown amount of cash. The suspect “fled northbound toward Mad River Parkway and was last seen going underneath a bridge,” Ahearn said. “We searched the area and were unable to locate the suspect.”

No one was injured and investigators are attempting to gather video evidence, the chief said.

At this point, the suspect is believed to be a white male in his 40s wearing all dark clothing and carrying dark backpack.
