UPDATED: EPD Investigating Man's Death as 'Possible Hit and Run'

UPDATE: The Eureka Police Department believes the apparent hit and run that left a man dead may have occurred around 7 p.m. yesterday, possibly involving a dark-colored SUV.

“The vehicle most likely has passenger side front end damage,” the latest EPD release states.

PREVIOUSLY:

The Eureka Police Department is investigating the death of a man found this morning near Fifth and V streets as a “possible hit and run traffic collision.”

According to the release, no information on a suspect or suspect vehicle is currently available.

“This is an ongoing investigation and updates will be released when they become available,” the release states. “The identity of the deceased is being withheld until the Humboldt County Coroner’s Office has made the required notifications.”

The following is updated information to the 5th and V Street Hit and Run traffic collision press release issued this morning.

As a result of evidence analysis and interviews, the collision may have occurred on 12-13-2018 at about 7:00 pm. The suspect vehicle is possibly a dark colored 2000’s mid-sized SUV. The vehicle most likely has passenger side front end damage.

Anyone with information regarding this vehicle is urged to call Detective Richard Bise at (707) 441-4109.

On 12-14-2018 at approximately 8:10 am, officers of the Eureka Police Department responded to the area of 5th and V Streets for the report of a suspicious circumstance.

Upon officer’s arrival, they located an adult male in the foliage, just south of Highway 101. The male was determined to be deceased.

Based on the initial findings, the incident is being investigated as a possible hit and run traffic collision. There are no suspect(s) or involved vehicle information at this time.

This is an ongoing investigation and updates will be released when they become available. The identity of the deceased is being withheld until the Humboldt County Coroner’s Office has made the required notifications.

The Eureka Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance and urges anyone with information regarding this incident to call Detective Richard Bise at (707) 441-4109.
