CHP: Pedestrian Death Near Westhaven Being Investigated

A pedestrian  injured in an apparent hit and run on northbound U.S. Highway 101 near Sixth Avenue in Westhaven died this morning after being taken to St. Joseph Hospital.

The man, whose name and age have not been released pending notification of next of kin, was found by a passing motorist just after 5:30 a.m. The California Highway Patrol is investigating his death as a hit and run, according to a release, and asks anyone with information to contact the agency.

On November 2, 2018, at approximately 5:37 AM, the California Highway Patrol received a call of a pedestrian lying in the roadway on Northbound US-101 at 6th Ave in Westhaven. The caller, a passing motorist, reported the male victim was bleeding and appeared to have been hit by a vehicle. Emergency personnel responded to the scene and provided medical aid to the victim. The victim was subsequently transported to St. Joseph Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Humboldt County Coroner's Office.

It is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in this collision.
The California Highway Patrol Humboldt Area is investigating this hit and run collision and is asking for the public's help in identifying the vehicle involved.
