Fatal Single-Car Crash Near Alderpoint Kills One

The Garberville office of the Highway Patrol reports that in the early morning hours of July 1, a 47-year old man from Olympia, Washington, let his westbound vehicle leave Alderpoint Road and collided with a tree.

The man was driving a 1970 Chevrolet C50 box truck. The wreck was not discovered until the mid-morning, Cal-Fire was called out and pronounced the man deceased. The reason for the crash is unknown and the driver has not yet been identified.

This is the county's 17th roadway death of 2018.

From the Garberville CHP:

On July 1, 2018, at approximately 0001 hours, a 47 year old male from Olympia, WA was driving a 1970 Chevrolet C50 box truck, westbound on Alderpoint Road, east of Redwood Drive. For reasons still under investigation, the driver allowed the Chevrolet to travel off of the south roadway edge, where it collided with a tree. The traffic collision was not discovered until approximately 0800 hours on July 1, 2018. The driver and sole occupant of the Chevrolet was pronounced deceased by Cal-Fire personnel.

This collision remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, Garberville Area office. It is not known at this time if drugs or alcohol impairment are a factor in this collision.

The following agencies responded to the scene and assisted with this incident; Garberville Volunteer Fire Department, Cal-Fire, Redway Volunteer Fire Department, Humboldt County Roads Department, and the Humboldt County Sheriff Department.
