UPDATE: Preliminary Autopsy Results For Centerville Beach Body

UPDATE: The body has been confirmed as  male, but its identity is pending. According to the sheriff's office, preliminary autopsy results show signs of death consistent with drowning.

Previously:

An autopsy is scheduled tomorrow to help determine the identity and cause of death of a body found Saturday afternoon on Centerville Beach, approximately a quarter of a mile from the mouth of the Eel River.

The sheriff's office declined to give any additional information about the body, which was described as "severely decomposed."

On 2/24/18 at approximately 2:35 pm, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to the report of a dead body on Centerville Beach. Deputies arrived on scene and located a severely decomposed body approximately one quarter of a mile from the mouth of the Eel River. The Coroner’s Office arrived on scene and the body was retrieved. This investigation is currently ongoing.
