The spirits of the dead were alive and celebrating in Old Town on Saturday night, with the 12th annual Dia de los Muertos Celebration in full swing. Put on by the Ink People Center for the Arts and Humboldt Communidad in collaboration with Danza Xalxiutlikue, the event featured a parade and dance performances in celebration of the traditional Mexican holiday that honors those who have "passed on from this life to the next world."

Additionally, the Ink People has set up a Dia de los Muertos gallery show at the Brenda Tuxford Gallery that features submitted altars, or ofrendas, celebrating and remembering the dead with pictures, memorabilia, food and flowers. The altars will be on display at the gallery, located at 325 Second Street, through the end of the month.

Local photograph Mark Larson took in the spectacle Saturday, and shared these photos.
