Waiting for Bill

... a.k.a "Final Final Final Clinton Details."

It probably goes without saying, but you shouldn't expect Bill Clinton to enter Redwood Acres at 6:30 p.m. on the dot tonight, no matter what advance folk are saying.

Clinton has three scheduled stops today . He's in Oakland this morning, Napa this afternoon and Eureka in the evening. Over at Time Magazine 's " The Page, " they have the Eureka event listed at 7 p.m., not 6:30 p.m. The Napa event starts at 3 p.m. You can bet these Washington reporters know something we peons do not. (Note that times on "The Page" are given in Eastern Standard. Of course.)

The final word is that doors will open at 5:30 p.m., but you can bet that people will be getting there even earlier, for whatever reason. The hall where Clinton will speak has a maximum capacity of 400 souls. It will fill quickly. What this amounts to is roughly two hours of standing around in a crowded hall, waiting. If you're not totally up for it, take note that the speechifying will be broadcast live on KHUM , 104.3 or 104.7 FM or streaming on the web.

Meanwhile, turn to today's interesting Times-Standard piece , which gives some glimpses of the political jockeying that took place in order to bring Bubba here for this transformational event. We note that Clinton is making three stops in Rep. Mike Thompson's district on this northern California swing -- Napa and Eureka today, Davis last night.

UPDATE, 1:30 p.m. : About 30 people in line at 1 o'clock. Advance people milling about, setting up seats, running hither and yon. News: The Arcata Interfaith Gospel Choir will warm up the crowd.
