Mazzotti's Shutters in Response to Statewide Closures

Posted By on Wed, Jul 1, 2020 at 6:16 PM

Following Gov. Gavin Newsom's order today shutting down indoor restaurants and other indoor businesses in 19 California counties due to rising COVID-19 infection rates, Mazzotti's on the Plaza owner Joseph Mazzotti has closed the Italian eatery, at least for now.

In a Facebook post, Mazzotti wrote the closure would be until further notice. "Our staff, your families and our community is first on our mind! We want to do what is right and we feel this is!"

Via text, Mazzotti wrote that he had been considering pausing service over the weekend, amid trying to organize the week's staffing and watching the increase of COVID-19 cases on the news. Newsom's announcement solidified the choice.

The restaurant had been offering takeout during shelter in place and had established both gift card sales and a GoFundMe. Its sister location in Eureka closed in February of last year.
