A simple home dirt test for milk is recommended by the Chicago Department of Health. Affix a piece of clean wire netting across the neck of a funnel and place a layer of clean cotton batting across it. Stand the funnel in a Mason jar and pour the milk through the apparatus. The cotton should then be removed and placed upon a sheet of white card to dry. If there is evidence of dirt, refer the matter to the milkman as evidence of careless handling.
