Self-Cleaning Populace?

(Jan. 19, 2012)  Editor:

Sorry to hear about the Halloween bash on the Plaza (“Party Totals,” Blogjammin, Jan. 12). Couple of thoughts come to mind — What does it cost the Ferndale Fairground to clean up after the fair? It always looks real messy to me. But a lot of people are usually pretty messy. So what would have happened post-Halloween if there’d been a call-out to the citizens of Arcata to bring gloves, garbage bags, rakes, and clean up the Plaza ourselves?  This is what the Occupy movement must consider — that the Commons are to be used by the people, even if we have to clean up after ourselves. Not the public works or the police.
