Editor:
Browsing through your wonderful Journal, my eye is regularly caught by the ubiquitous marijuana leaf gracing many of your ads, as well as the number of (wink wink, nudge nudge) horticultural supply stores.
One of these ads this week is particularly clever. Under the heading “Welcome Back Students!” a young man in a backwards ball cap displaying the store’s logo is standing on the Arcata Plaza contemplating President McKinley. His backpack overflows with grow lights and nutrients, everything he will need to blow up a small indoor garden in a closet in his dorm room or the apartment he has rented close to campus.
How can a student coming to Humboldt State University resist? Forget Prop. 19. Legalization will simply evolve through marketing.
