Buddhists For H1N1

(Oct. 29, 2009)  Editor:

Well, it seems like healthy debate and discussion these days could do with exercise. It’s like our muscles — if ya don’t use them they gets flabby, verdad? If I didn’t know better, I would think the only view on the pig flu is the government’s view. What might that be?

“Oh, it’s really bad, so trust us, let us save you with our wonderful H1N1 vaccine. Well, it may be more accurate to say ‘the vaccine of the huge pharmaceutical drug and vaccine industry who have a lot of influence with us your public servants in local, state and federal government who’ve only sworn an oath to uphold and defend the U.S. Constitution against all enemies foreign or domestic.’”

Some readers might decide the only one who has an opposing view to the party line is the dude (or dudette) who spray-painted anti-vaccine slogans in Willow Creek and on the 299 (“The Vax Vandals,” Oct. 1). That’s the only time I’ve even caught a scent in the local media that someone disagreed with the “vaccine is good for you” media barrage.

I’m not a vandal. I don’t even like spray-paint because I don’t dig strong chemicals. So, no confession here to high school pranks like that. But I do confess to the heresy of not believing Big Bro, Big Pharma and Obama Nations (I mean United Nations) know, or even want, what’s best for me and my fellow Americans.

The government is not my religion or my spiritual authority. My religion is the teachings of the Lord Buddha Shakyamuni and his pure lineages of realized masters whose teachings as pure as the purest diamond have arrived in America only from their immeasurable compassion.

Remember, though — please get your medical advice from medical professionals, not paranoids and dead religious figures.
