A companion constant
That's what cancer is --
I couldn't feel it inside of
me -- but -- there it was -- in my
house, in the shower, in
the car, at work, at the
breakfast/dinner/lunch table --
in my bed -- at night -- first thing
in the morning -- until, miracle
of miracle -- birds came, flocks
of tiny birds gathered at the
corners of the roof of my
house, birds hovering,
fluttering, tugging at wide
pieces of fabric tied
to the eaves and w/ their
many tiny beaks, birds carried
the roof off the house
letting in small light
