tomorrow

My car will not catch on fire

it will not break down

in the dark

in the rain

on the highway

with my 10 year old inside

it will not need to be towed

again

nor require $1300 worth

of work from the Mechanic

I will not need to flag down passersby

who rush home up the off-ramp

and back down it the wrong way

w/ a fire extinguisher

I will not need to again-

ask to borrow a cell phone

I will not need to again-

ask for a jump

My car will drive across pink earth

into the crescent evening

humming alongside careless fields

and shy reeds

beneath honest sunsets

My car will no longer be a Bodhisattva

allowing people to earn good karma

for their Good Samaritan ways.
