La Dolce Video Presents Les Blank

La Dolce Video celebrates its fourth anniversary with three films by documentarian Les Blank. Doors and DVD sale starts at 6 p.m. Movies start at 8 p.m.

From press release:

Garlic is as Good as Ten Mothers (1980) 51 min. This is Blank's most gastronomically obsessioned film portrait yet. An exhaustive, lip-smacking foray into the history, consumption, cultivation, and culinary and curative powers of allium sativum.

Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe(1980) 20 min. Yes, German film director Werner Herzog really does eat his shoe, to fulfill a vow to fellow filmmaker Errol Morris - boldly exemplifying his belief that people must have the guts to attempt what they dream of. Inspiring.

Always for Pleasure (1978) 58 min. An intense insider’s portrait of New Orleans’ street celebrations and unique cultural gumbo: Mardi Gras, second-line parades, and Jazz Fest. Features live music from Professor Longhair, the Wild Tchoupitoulas, the Neville Brothers and more. This glorious, soul-satisfying film is among Blank’s special masterworks.
