Kinetic Grand Championship

The Kinetic Grand Championship is a three-day, 42-mile human-powered art vehicle race over land, sand, mud and water known as the “Triathlon of the Art World.”

Saturday, Day 1 of the Kinetic Grand Championship starts on the Arcata Plaza at the noon whistle. The racers circle the plaza then take off to the Manila dunes, where they race through miles of sand to the great and inevitable “Deadman’s Drop.” From there it's on to Eureka’s Old Town ending at Halvorsen Park where machines and racers spend the night.

Sunday, starts on the Humboldt Bay waterfront. Kinetic Pilots race their crafts to the Wharfinger Building where they plunge into the water and make their way to Samoa Bridge. Once back on land they race through Eureka with a pit stop at Eureka Natural Foods. After a journey through PALCO Marsh, new route leg takes them along the new Hiksari Trail on the waterfront exiting at Humboldt Hill. From there it's up over Hookton Hill to College of the Redwoods and on to Loleta. Day 2 ends with a private campout on Cannibal Island for racers and volunteers only.

Monday, Day 3 starts at the mouth of the Eel River, heads through Morgan Slough and onto dry land. After 1 p.m. racers head into town to cross the finish line on Ferndale’s historic Main Street, where they park, absorb some glory, and head to Ferndale’s Fireman’s Hall for the Glorious Final Awards Dinner .
