We all know that local government is broke and looking for more income ("Busted," Aug. 14). That's not news. The real question is graphed in the chart of county tax revenue on page 20: From 2003 to 2013, sales tax receipts more or less doubled, and the main source of revenue, property tax, tripled.
Where did all that money go? Poaching by the state? Increased costs for reporting and compliance? Health benefits? New technologies and their support? Now that would be a piece of reporting.
