They brighten your day with their adorable enthusiasm. They snuggle you when no one else will. They unknowingly star in billions of YouTube clips that you've wasted billions of hours watching, forwarding and wall-posting on Facebook. They are pets. You love them. Don't fight it.
And since they've given you so much, couldn't you give just a little back to improve their chances of having a better life here locally? Please, mister? We'll even throw you a party to make it seem like less of a sacrifice. Don't make me show you an adorable picture of a kitten. I'll do it.
Thus, the Companion Animal Foundation -- one of Humboldt's leaders in decreasing the lonesome pet population through spay/neuter assistance, education and adoptions -- asks you to "cough it up, fur a good cause" at its 2011 Fur Ball, beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Arcata Community Center. Dare we say, this could get hairy? Ouch, we just did.
The evening's pun-heavy proceedings feature the distribution of coveted "Beast-ro Awards," a sophisticated yappy hour, prom-ish glamor shots and divine and decadent (human) desserts. That officially tops a night of YouTube-animal-clip binging.
Also, on paw (sorry) will be the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and a woof-raising performance (sorry, again) by Dr. Squid. I know, squids aren't that cuddly. But they squirt ink. And they can make you dance.
Bow wow wow yippee yo yippee yee! CAF is definitely in da house. Tickets for the Fur Ball are $20 and can be purchased at CAF, Sunnybrae Animal Clinic, McKinleyville Animal Care Center, The Farm Store, Arcata Pet and Fin and Feather.
